I asked AI if it would replace jobs in marketing.
With different AI tools taking the limelight by the end of 2022, fear and insecurity have crept into the minds of marketers worldwide. Tools such as ChatGPT and Mid Journey are now competing with copywriters and graphic designers.
But does AI really threaten jobs like copywriting and graphic designing?
I studied two of the most popular AI tools to understand this better.
ChatGPT : AI Chatbot
The first tool I tried was ChatGPT, an AI tool that worries copywriters and teachers alike as it churns out 1000-word essays on any topic within seconds.
I asked the tool if it would replace jobs in marketing. And the answer, as you can see in the picture below, was a yes, and a no.
ChatGPT said that it would replace some jobs in marketing as it is good at automating tasks. And I agree with this. AI might replace jobs that involve data processing and analysis in the future. It can also provide better insights into consumer behaviour or targeting in advertisements, as AI is a lot better at recognising patterns than humans.
And as for copywriters biting your nails, AI might not be your enemy. Using AI, you can cut the long hours of research about a topic short. ChatGPT or any similar tool can provide you with the actual content on which you can use your creative skills to craft the best copy.
Mid Journey : AI Image Generator
The next tool I used was Mid Journey. Above are images generated by the AI tool for the prompt: \”Product packaging for a luxury ayurvedic skincare brand\”.
I was impressed by the results the tool gave for my prompts. The images looked pretty good but are in no way threatening a graphic designer\’s job. But these images can be taken as a reference and could make the lives of designers much more effortless.
Both of these tools give a lot of insights into the direction in which AI tools are progressing. Even though these results are impressive, they are in no way threatening the human touch yet. Using these AI tools will help marketers complete their tasks more efficiently.
Technology has always made some jobs redundant. Protests erupted in my home state of Kerala when computers were introduced in the late 1980s. Tractors were burnt by labourers in America who feared they would lose their jobs.
If history has taught us anything, technology will always benefit us, and its evolution cannot be stopped. And people who utilise new technology have always emerged victorious over others who were reluctant to adapt.
